A WORD FROM
President Richard Carvajal
President's Update
March 2023
Dear Blazer Nation,
As we close in on Midterms, I hope this semester is going well. It certainly feels like it’s moving fast. Spring Break is just a couple weeks away, and I hope all our students and faculty can refresh and replenish. I have a few updates to share with you.
Spring Commencement
We are about two months from another wonderful Spring Commencement. The Graduate School ceremony is set for 5:00 p.m. on May 5th with the Undergraduate ceremony happening on May 6th at 7:00 p.m. There are a lot of things planned to get our graduates ready for the big day and to start their careers. Please see the links below to our main Commencement page for everything our seniors need to know and a Commencement Checklist to get our grads to the finish line. The link to it is below as well. I look forward to celebrating with our graduates and their families in May.
South Georgia Film Festival
The 2023 South Georgia Film Festival is this weekend, and we are proud to serve as host once again. There is something for every enthusiast, with two current VSU students and four alums among the filmmakers showing off their work. It takes a lot of planning to put on the festival, and I know it will be another great event. This is the 7th year for the festival, and 95 films will be screened.
In Closing
There are lots of ways to get involved on campus and online. I hope you are taking advantage of the many events put on by the College of the Arts, our 200+ student organizations, Blazer Athletics, and don’t forget to reach out to the Academic Support Center if needed. The end of the semester will be here before we know it.
Go Blazers!
Dr. Richard Carvajal
