A WORD FROM

President's Update
September 2025
Dear Blazer Nation,
The fall 2025 semester is off to a great start. I thoroughly enjoy walking around campus and seeing countless students studying, taking part in an event, or just socializing with each other. There is plenty happening on campus, and I have some updates to share with you.
Impact of a VSU Degree
The Lifetime Earnings for University System of Georgia Class of 2024 study shows that a bachelor’s degree from VSU will earn a graduate nearly $1.4 million more during their lifetime. That’s the finding of the study conducted by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia. Acquiring an advanced degree boosts those earnings even more. The study is important because it shows the value of higher education and how important what we do every day here at VSU is. You can read the report by clicking the link below.
Football, Family Weekend, & More
If you love VSU football, the Blazin’ Brigade, the VSU Red Hots and Cheerleaders, and our VSU families, September 27 is the day for you. It’s the home opener for our Blazers with kickoff against UNC Pembroke at 4 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. It’s also Family Weekend with lots of fun planned for all our Blazers and those they love most. Band Day is also happening, so you will get to enjoy the incredible Blazin’ Brigade, and the VSU Cheerleaders and Red Hots are holding their Kiddie Clinic. Kids ages 3-13 will learn a routine the night before the game that they will perform during halftime. It is going to be a fun day with something for everyone. Links for more information or to sign up for any of these events are below.
Fall Commencement and Grad Finale
It is never too early to get excited for Fall Commencement. The Graduate School Ceremony is set for Friday, December 12, and the Undergraduate Ceremony is on Saturday, December 13. Plenty of career and other events are planned between now and then to get our fall graduates ready for the next steps in life. Also, Grad Finale, the one-stop shop to purchase regalia and other items, is set for October 7-8 in the VSU Bookstore at the Student Union and online. Discounts are available for those who purchase their cap and gown during Grad Finale. You can learn more about Commencement and Grad Finale at the links below.
Key Dates
As always, there are plenty of events happening on campus this fall. Here are a couple key ones you may want to know about. Homecoming Weekend is October 24-25 with a golf tournament, the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner, the parade, lots of events and activities for our students, and of course the football game against North Greenville at 3 p.m. on the 25th. And we will kick-off the holiday season with Lighting of the Palms on Tuesday, December 2 on the Front Lawn. I am looking forward to another wonderful fall semester on campus.
In Closing
Congratulations to the VSU Faculty and Staff who were named Presidential Excellence Award Winners during our recent Convocation. You can read more about them in the VSU Newsroom by clicking the link below.
