A WORD FROM
President Richard Carvajal
President's Update
October 2025
Dear Blazer Nation,
The arrival of October means that fall midterms are just around the corner. Students and faculty, I hope the semester is going well, and I wish you all well as you take and grade exams. There is plenty happening on campus, and I have some updates to share with you.
Personal Announcement
Most of you are already aware, but it is with mixed emotions that I will depart VSU in December to take a new position in a place that I consider my first home. That said, I am going to miss this campus, this town, and most importantly all of our students, faculty, and staff. It has been an incredible nine years being your leader. I think back on all the accomplishments, adversity, and adventures together with an overwhelming sense of pride. We overcame and succeeded because we did it together. Thank you for all the great memories, and I am perhaps most excited to celebrate our graduates one last time at America’s Best Commencement in December. Class of 2025, I will see you there!
Fall 2025 Enrollment
I am excited to share some big news concerning enrollment. For the sixth straight term, VSU enrollment is in the green, meaning it is up! We are still enrolling for Term B, but we have already surpassed our enrollment from Fall 2024. Perhaps the best news is that enrollment is approving across the board in our three main areas: traditional undergraduate, graduate school, and the Online College. It takes all of us to make this happen, so thank you for working together to keep the momentum going. You should all be incredibly proud!
U.S. News and World Report
VSU is once again listed among the nation’s best colleges and universities, according to U.S. News and World Report’s recently released 2026 Best Colleges rankings. The placement follows an assessment of more than 1,700 colleges and universities nationwide. VSU earned coveted spots in seven categories —Best National Universities, Top Performers on Social Mobility, Top Public Schools, Undergraduate Business Programs, Undergraduate Nursing Programs, Undergraduate Psychology Programs, and Undergraduate Computer Science Programs. You can read more about each category by clicking the link below.
Pink Out Game
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our Pink Out football game is coming up this weekend at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium against Lenoir-Rhyne. For the Pink Out game, we ask that all Blazer fans wear their pink to show the importance of getting checked for breast and other types of cancer. Kickoff is at 4 p.m., and I look forward to seeing lots of pink in the home stands.
In Closing
I know many of you are looking forward to Fall Break on Oct. 13-14. I hope our faculty and students enjoy this much-deserved time off. And, I look forward to welcoming our alumni back to Blazer Nation for all the fun festivities during Homecoming Week on Oct. 20-25.
Go Blazers!
