A WORD FROM
President Richard Carvajal
President's Update
November 2023
Dear Blazer Nation,
We are just over four weeks away from Fall Commencement, and this semester is rapidly winding down. There are many great things happening on campus as we get closer to the holidays. I am excited to share some updates with you.
Budget Advisory Council
The Budget Advisory Council has met twice this semester, most recently on October 27, to hear funding requests for one-time projects. I know it can make folks nervous to make their pitches in front of everyone, but our presenters did a terrific job. Thank you to them and all our divisions for putting forth such thoughtful ideas. I hope you will make plans to attend the next meeting on February 16, 2024, in the University Center Cypress Room.
Lighting of the Palms
VSU’s annual holiday kickoff is coming up at the end of this month. I hope you will join me for Lighting of the Palms at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28. This is such a fun event for our students, faculty, staff, their families, and of course the community. Get ready to hear some great music, play games, drink some delicious hot chocolate, and hang out with Santa Blaze.
Battle for the Peach Basket
I am a little sentimental about our final regular season home football game this weekend against West Georgia. This will be the final Battle for the Peach Basket as UWG is moving to Division I next year. This has been such a great rivalry over the years, with VSU holding the advantage, 29-14. It would be great to notch win number 30 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., so I hope you will come out and cheer our student-athletes on to victory.
In Closing
As I mentioned earlier, Fall Commencement is coming up on Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9, and there is a lot of information both our graduates and their families need to know. Please click the link below to see ceremony information, the parking and transportation map, all the great events happening between now and then, and more. I’ll see you there!
Go Blazers!
