A WORD FROM

President's Update
March 2025
Dear Blazer Nation,
We are about halfway through the spring 2025 semester, and I hope it is going well for you. I am enjoying the cooler temperatures while knowing the South Georgia heat will be back soon enough. There is plenty happening on campus, and I have some updates to share with you.
Connected on Campus
Thank you for your patience as we have been working to install Wi-Fi on VSU’s Front Lawn. We know this is a favorite study spot for our students, and having the network there will be a game changer. The Wi-Fi should be up and running any day now. We will let you know via email and social media once it is ready. You can click the link below to see all the wireless networks offered to you at VSU. I look forward to seeing the Front Lawn full of hammocks, laptops, and students having fun and studying.
Spring Commencement
Spring Commencement will be here before we know it. This year, the Graduate School Ceremony is on Friday, May 9, while the Undergraduate Ceremony is on Saturday, May 10. This is such a special time for our seniors, and there are many events coming up to prepare them for their big day and beyond. Please check our main Commencement page for career events, free grad photo opportunities on our beautiful campus, and information about both ceremonies. I look forward to celebrating with our graduates and families in May.
Faculty and Staff Appreciation
Our annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week is coming up at the end of the month, and I am looking forward to it! The week of March 24-28, there will be some great events and freebies all employees can take advantage of. They include $5 towards one Starbucks or Einstein's item, a free meal at Palms, use of the Student Recreation Center for the week, Downtown Discounts from some of our great local businesses, and so much more. Please click the link below to learn more about this big celebration, and we look forward to celebrating you.
Blazer Athletics
Congratulations to Blazer Men’s Basketball for earning the No. 4 seed in this weekend’s NCAA South Regional. They will play Lynn on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Our Lady Blazers wrapped up a great first season under head coach Chandler Merkerson, and I know special things are in the future for them. Our men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball, and golf teams are in the heart of their seasons, so please head out and cheer on these incredible student-athletes. You can see their schedules in the link below.
In Closing
Spring Break is coming up next week, and I wish all faculty and students a fun and safe time away. I know you will come back refreshed, recharged, and ready for a successful end of the semester.
Go Blazers!
Dr. Richard Carvajal
