President's Update

June/July 2024

Dear Blazer Nation,

As you will read below, the 2024 summer semester is off to a great start. While things are traditionally slower here on campus during this time of year, we are welcoming lots of potential future Blazers taking part in various summer camps. I have several updates to share with you.

National Championship

Congratulations to our Men’s Tennis team! They won VSU’s Ninth NCAA Division II National Championship in thrilling fashion over Flagler Memorial Day Weekend in Orlando. This is the third National Championship for VSU Men’s Tennis, previously winning titles in 2006 and 2011. Congratulations to Coach John Hansen and all our incredibly talented student-athletes! We are so proud of you! If you would like to see pictures from the national title game, click the link to the Flickr album below.

Save the Date: Faculty & Staff Convocation

Faculty & Staff Convocation will be here before we know it! So, save this date: Monday, August 12, 2024. The theme for this year’s convocation will be VSU2030. The final draft of this updated strategic plan was sent out to all faculty and staff on May 3, and I hope you have had a chance to take a good look at it. VSU2030 is the blueprint for our successful future, and it will take each and every one of us to get there. You can read the plan in its entirety by clicking the link below.

Orientation

Our Blazer Beginnings Orientation is already underway on campus this summer. There are several sessions our new students this fall can attend to get ready to join Blazer Nation. Orientation is our chance to calm nerves and show our families and students all they are going to learn and how much fun they will have during their time at VSU. For our employees, it takes a year of planning to get to this point, and I am incredibly thankful for all your efforts. We are incredibly excited for this fall and are looking forward to welcoming in the class of 2028 very soon.

Peach State Summer Theatre

Summer is also a great time to enjoy The Arts on campus, and we have three fantastic shows featured as part of Peach State Summer Theatre. The entire family can come and enjoy “Annie,” which is based on “Little Orphan Annie.” “Five Guys Named Mo” is a fantastic tribute to rhythm and blues pioneer Louis Jordan, and you can plan to laugh a lot while watching “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” You can read about these shows, see the performance schedule, and buy your tickets by clicking the link below.

In Closing

I know it is often easier said than done, but I hope you are able to sneak in a little rest and relaxation this summer. There is so much to be excited about in the weeks and months ahead.

Go Blazers!
