A WORD FROM

President's Update
January 2024
Dear Blazer Nation,
Happy New Year! The Spring 2024 semester is underway, and I am excited to have students back on campus. It is going to be a great year, and I have some updates to share with you.
Retention Pay Supplement
I know we were all thrilled to learn about the one-time, $1,000 state employee retention pay supplement eligible VSU employees received from Governor Kemp and legislative leaders over the holiday break. It is incredibly well-deserved as you are the lifeblood of our wonderful institution. VSU’s Human Resources team sent an email to all faculty and staff on Tuesday, December 19, so please check your email if you have any questions. Thank you for all you do!
Commencement
Another fantastic Fall Commencement is in the books! Both ceremonies were a wonderful celebration of the commitment and hard work of our students and faculty. I look forward to recognizing our Spring 2024 graduates on May 3 and 4. Those expecting to graduate this spring need to go ahead and apply for graduation if they haven’t already. The link for those forms is below. Please also get with your academic advisor to ensure all degree requirements have been met. I am excited to see all our graduates cross the stage in May.
Dr. King Celebration
Plans are set for VSU’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration. This year’s events will take place this upcoming Monday, January 15, and will include a march, program, and community service opportunities. You can learn more about the schedule of events by continuing to read this newsletter.
In Closing
This is the time of year when many people set goals and think about the year to come. What we do here everyday at VSU is so important to our students and our community. I am so thankful for all you do, and I know 2024 is going to be a year to remember!
Go Blazers!
