A WORD FROM
President Richard Carvajal
President's Update
April 2024
Dear Blazer Nation,
It is hard to believe that we are in the final full month of the spring 2024 semester. It has been a busy semester with a lot happening on and around campus. I have some good updates to share with you.
VSU2030
Our updated strategic plan, VSU2030, is nearing completion, but we still need one more round of feedback from you. My office sent out the first draft of the full plan on March 20 for you to read, consider, and respond. Please fill out the survey to provide us with your feedback. The survey closes this Friday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. This is important work as we look to the future of our university. I appreciate you being willing to provide your input.
Mayhem
Mayhem is about to hit the Front Lawn, as in the Mayhem Music Festival. The annual event is coming up on Friday, April 26, and as usual, it is going to be a blast! If you’ve not attended Mayhem before, it is a night of great music, food, and lots of fun. It runs from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. on VSU’s Front Lawn. Information about the bands playing will be coming soon. Students, employees, and the entire community are invited. Students will be provided tickets for free food while employees and the community can buy food tickets.
Spring Commencement
Spring Commencement is coming up next month, and I know our seniors and graduate students are excited about their big day. There is a calendar of events in this final month leading up to the big day, including the Spring Education Fair and our final two free grad photo days. The link below has the complete list of events, along with ceremony and parking maps, and much more. The live stream link will be posted on the page the week before the ceremonies. I look forward to welcoming our graduates’ families and friends to campus for what I believe is America’s best Commencement.
Faculty & Staff Appreciation
Another successful Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week is in the books! I hope you enjoyed the free food and drinks, sneaked in some free fun at the Student Recreation Center, and I look forward to our day at Wild Adventures coming up on April 13. I was perhaps most impressed by our employees who climbed the wall at the Rec Center. The best time all week was 10.92 seconds, which is incredible! Thank you to all our employees for what you do for our students and our wonderful institution.
In Closing
There is a lot happening this month on campus including theatre, dance, and music performances and art exhibitions in the College of the Arts, many games and matches from our student-athletes, and countless opportunities to get involved with our 150+ student organizations. Please see the links below to get involved.
Go Blazers!
